Has Doping Killed Cycling
Cycling is one of the world’s most popular sports, bringing in thousands of competitors, fan, and sponsors. Cycling has been gaining attention in the United States; unfortunately it is negative attention due to the doping scandal of Lance Armstrong. Doping has been heavily affecting the outcome of the many of cycling major races, the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, and the Vuelta a Espana. Doping has started to push many sponsors away from cycling and threatens to serious injure the reputation of the cyclists of the world. Doping allegations and convictions have hurt cycling but is it fair to harass all cyclists for doping when the biggest names in the sport are the ones being caught and thrown to the lion. The problem is that in the past years doping has been the only way that many of the world’s top cyclists have been able to stay competitive with a field that has been doping for years, so is it fair for us to condemn them for just trying to be able to compete the way they always have and try to win against other competitors who are doping. Doping has had a hugely negative effected on the sport in a manner that cycling may never recover form and only time can tell if cycling will be able to get back to clean racing.
